Mmmmm! strange that, it was over fueling, must need setting up again ,just changed the ecu temp sensor yesterday, didn't think it had that much of an effect

They are tanned but look too pale so probably needs a slight mixture adjustement. Has it pinked at all?

I would say the plugs are running to hot, which would indicate it's a lean, what plugs are they? Are they correct specification for the engine, and is it standard?

Miles

Stick some NGK's in there, Bosch are well known for not being that great, Even had a couple of sets that didn;t even work when brand new

Yes it started pinking a little,it was a bit strange, cozy I got the ignition timing spot on,I think th AFM is about 2 turns from being out, did this coz it was running rich, changed temp sensor for Bosch part as old one was a pattern part, now running lean

Bosch plugs, will get some NGKs today, yes it's completely standard

Is it a ph2 cat with a lambda?

Phase 1 and no sensor on exhaust, not a cat system

Going to get today, bcp6es plugs, if running lean, altering the mixture on the AFM won't do much, how do I get it to richen up more?

I forgot to mention that it was hard to start when hot, only just started doing this

Low fuel pressure? Could be a faulty regulator

changed that coz it was faulty

plug colour isn't particularly relevant these days with the different additives and lack of leaded fuels, you are best getting it on an emissions tester, or even better, a RR.

i'm off to see miles with the 309 goodwood,he's got an emissions unit that we can put on test

i turned the afm in a few more turns, the plugs looks a lot better now

Afm only affects the mixture at idle

The Afm screw should I say.

no, they have an effect on fuelling at all rpm.

Sorry I disagree

The screw is an air bypass, it basically introduces a small air leak past the airflow meter at idle which is a crude way of altering the idle mixture.

As soon as the revs rise the flap opens sufficiently that there will be little or no airflow through the idle passage, as the vacuum is less due to the main flap having opened.

Tom's on the money with this one - it will only have any meaningful effect on fuelling at idle.

Messing around with the spring tension however will impact fuelling across the board, which is why it's such a bad idea when people do that for MOT emissions.

The AFM works as its been tested, would never mess with tension on the AFM, more trouble than it's worth.
