I can recommend this one: http://www.ebay.de/itm/APEX-Bautrockner-Luftentfeuchter-Raum-Entfeuchter-max-50-L-Trockner-Lufttrockner-/201372928472?hash=item2ee2c309d8:g:SuoAAOSw~gRVgmlt

I've bought it to dry out our basement after it got flodded by heavy rains.

Afterwards it kept the garage dry over winter. It is nice because you can set the humidity and it can also operate with a hose attached instead of the tank. And of course, it has the shut off function you mentioned.

I picked up a meaco unit a few months back and have been really happy with it. Works to low temps as its a dessicant type and has auto shut off etc. Has kept the garage bone dry and doesn't need to run much if you get the garage well sealed.

You get a three year warranty from this place too.

It's about 5x5m so not far off a double and has quite a high roof and the unit copes very well. It's quite neat too so doesn't take up too Mich room, I use the constant drain facility into the sink and just put it on when I notice and moisture forming. It does have auto cut in and cut out on humidity though.

I've got a De'longhi DES12

12 litre extraction rate per 24h. Comes with a 3 litre tank, and a hose so you can run it to a drain or similar. It's slim and works up against a wall.

It's got an anti frost setting - which is worth considering if your garage gets really cold.

You can set it to certain levels of humidity and it will cut out when it reaches that point, and also kick back in when humidity increases so it won't be on ALL the time.

Ensure your garage is quite well sealed.

Do you really need one is my question? As they do gobble power.

My garage is well sealed, to the point that it cam often feel a lot colder or warmer inside than outside.

I find that I only get moisture issues when there has been a drastic swing in outside temperatures of +/- 10 deg C or more.

However in my case I've found there a very easy solution, I leave a window cracked open to allow the temperature to equalise.

If you are in your garage regularly e.g. every day or two then do the same if you can (and its secure to do so, my window is barred) or consider air bricks for ventilation.

What Tom said - I ran a dehumidifier inside my house for a while, and the effect on the electricity bills was quite noticeable. I can only imagine an industrial unit being worse.
