Softer Spring For Std 205 Gti

Recommended Posts

idoari

Hi,

i have a 205 gti 1.6 with a standard suspention. the problem is the spring that i have is too stiff!!

every LITTLE bump in the road is felt (by what i can tell , i have a OMP springs)

is the 7001-120 eibach considered a soft spring?

what is the springs that are closest to the standard original springs?

thanks

Ido

p.s. my car is a daily driver

The Eibachs are progressively wound.

They maybe more compliant, they will lower the front of your car 25mm.

I have them but I also have different dampers.

I'd just use normal springs, they are designed for the car.

in peugeot service box it specified a LOT of springs (with different color on them)

which on is the correct one for my 1992 1.6 gti (115 HP)?

I don't know what a 1.6 had, but I know that a non ac non pas non abs 1.9 used 5002 37 - two yellow marks.

in my experience its the damper that makes the car feel too hard, or more specifically mismatched damper and spring.

I have ac in my car but not pas. I know that the recommanded front shocks for the car are bilstein b4 (black not yellow) but what spring going to be close to the original? Brand, model?

Thanks

I presume you're unable to acquire standard parts? If not then I'd advise using them.

My 1.6 has neither AC nor PAS and is fine as a daily in regards to the suspension. Even considering the lousy roads around here.

I would expect OMP gear to be a bit more track orientated - Eibach is a good shout, but I don't think they'll be what you would consider soft.

Just to answer some wuestions remaining to be answered.

The eibachs are definitely harder.

The standard springs and dampers/shocks should be nice and compliant. Unless they are old or very early 1.6 part numbers/model they should be fine.

Correct me if Im wrong but Peugeot was manufacturing their own shock absorbers and apparently are very high quality in terms of longevity and design.

Try and find another members standard car ro drive and see how it feels. If you can still buy Peugeot stuff that would be the go.

Do your Springs have and paint markings on them?

They are a light car and are relativly softly sprung IMO

Good luck.

I think you should be first looking at the dampers. They sound knackered. I'd never say a standard GTI ride was harsh at all..
