Retro Pug 0 1 Cars Posted February 12, 2016 (edited) Hi all I used to be a bit of a regular on here but due to loads of boring reasons including the ammount of time I spend travelling with work all things 205 have sadly slipped away... Anyway I really miss driving this car and its a crime its not on the road, but unfortuanely I really need some help. I dropped in a replacement 306 GTi engine and sadly its a tapper in a big way. As said I'm short on time so when driving past a local garage and noticing a 205 rally car inside I thought I'd call in. I'd used the garage before and knew the owner reasonably well so thought I'd offer him the job of removing the head and sorting. Anyway he agreed and would fit it in around other jobs, but that was last May and due to loads of other boring issues he's not really got to it and now says he's unlikely to any time soon. So is there anyone in the area or here abouts who can help or even reccomend someone/garage? Obviously I dont expect something for nothing and will of course pay for time/expertise. I'm of to visit a couple of places this afternoon but thought it was best to ask on here too. Like I say I really miss driving this car and want to use it when I marry later in the year so really need it back on the road for that too. Any offers would be greatly appriciated. Cheers John. kyepan 291 Posted February 12, 2016 It's not that hard to do it yourself if you break down into stages, and treat it like a little part time project. The only bit you'll need help on is the machining, and there will be plenty of places to help you with that. Plus it will cut the price of the job down to the cost of valves, new head gasket set, machining, and a cam belt kit... plenty of people on here would give advice and perhaps lend a hand too. I visited a garage in Llantrisant who I used before when I had a MkIV golf and always did a great job. Usually they only work on VAG stuff so never really concidered speaking to them but more than happy to get involved so I'm arranging to get it there but may well take you up on your generous offer if things don't work out. Looking to do a GTI6 conversion myself, and have removed 205 engines several times. So a little hands on help may well be great! The offers there if you need a hand pal!
