Engine Paint

Recommended Posts

GTI-Lee

Hi all. Got the engine out of my 205 & now in process of cleaning it all up. I'm wanting to paint the engine & wanted to know which paint have any of you used? I have done some research & a few people have recommended these http://www.frost.co.uk/automotive-pa...int-500ml.html and http://www.frost.co.uk/automotive-paint-coating-electroplating/automotive-paint/por15-paints/por15-engine-enamel-paint-473ml.html

Anyone on here used either?

Have to agree with above, managing to prepare and paint alloy to ensure it doesn't just flake off is a nightmare!

Best bet is to have it blasted and then WD40 to seal.

I've had some success with VHT clear lacquer on a couple of alloy rocker covers/heads, but it does eventually darken down a bit and you loose a bit of sparkle. You need to try get it on right away after prep.

I've painted three blocks now with Hycote engine enamel (Aluminium) and baked it on at 220 (iirc) degrees for 90 mins. As others have said the success is in the preparation, all the blocks were aqua blasted first. The block in the car must be approaching two years since painted and it looks as good now as when it was first installed and no flaking paint.

One of my freinds is getting his alu block (subaru) powder coated. I didn't even think it was possible, but he seems to think it is..... Acid dipped then coated.
