Best Thing To Do?

Hi all! Currently restoring my 205 GTI & come across some corrosion when I took out the carpet. There's quite a bit in passenger footwell & has gone straight through, so now there is a hole. Other places are by passenger door on the floor. However these are just tiny holes. My question is, that with passenger footwell I'm cutting out the rusty metal & welding a patch there as that's quite bad. With the small holes by passenger door I'm not sure wether to cut that out & patch them up or treat the rusted metal & just patch over it? What would you guys recommend? I'm more tempted to just cut out all the rusted metal & weld patches instead of just patching over the holes.

I'd always cut out the rust (or grind it off) and weld new metal

If you patch over rust it will just eat its way through again, remove all the rust you can and replace it with good steel or you will just end up re-doing it eventually.

It depend on the rust. If the rust eat the metal and it gotten thin or there is a hole - cut and replace. If it's surface rust you treat it with rust converter and paint over it.
