Battery Jump Packs

Recommended Posts

I am looking at buying a battery jump pack, I have up to £150 to spend one one but the market seems to be full of different options available. I don't particularly want a multi tool type thing with inflator and light, and I'd happily have a smaller unit, but they seem pricey. I obviously want something that has as much ampage as possible for my money. Has anyone had any personal experiences of anything currently on the market.

I've got a tiny modern thing, its about the size of 2 packs of cigs. I was a bit skeptical, but its an amazing thing. Will start a 205 with a totally dead battery. Mines a "Powervamp" branded thing but its about the same as many others.

Is that the tb1600 Tom? I was sceptical about the smaller units also. Bluepoint do a similar unit to the one you describe. I think the smaller units are the way to go rather them some clunky old thing the size and weight of a battery.

I just use a £25 trickle charger I bought from Halfrauds to keep the battery topped up and ready.

blimey, I think that's a no brainer then. I've used oddessy batteries before and they are very good. I imagine it's similar technology, you just have to keep them fully charged otherwise they fail.

No, its way way smaller than that!

Its tiny and I mean tiny! But it started my BMW 3.0 diesel so don't underestimate it for a moment!

I saw one of them turn over a mitsu L200 from flat today, the ignition lights wouldn't even light. It had it started within seconds, and as you say tiny, not much bigger than a large Dairy Milk.

I don't imagine you want to be doing it too often to the same battery right enough.

I just bought one of the lithium little battery starters this morning from the electrical rep that comes into work. £45.

I borrowed some random persons one after a weekend mountain biking / camping. Fired my Discovery 3 V6 diesel straight up.

I got one from Ebay £38 or so and it is awesome and very small as Tom has mentioned.

Makes my 10 yr old booster box look 50 yrs old.

'Cause even putting together a decent sized lithium to suit a car will cost you nigh on 200 quid even if you DIY it (Guess who's building on for the buggy.... ;) )

Great for track/race cars though as they'll hold their charge even if it's parked up half the year.
