Fuel Hose Alternative

Recommended Posts

Alan77

Inspection shows that one of my fuel lines is perishing. Peugeot want £54 for it, so has anyone used any good quality, reliable alternatives?

Its on the back of the FPR, screenshot shows the one i'm after.

Cheers.

I've always replaced that with some generic 7mm fuel hose from a motorfactor, cost probably about 5% of what Peugeot is asking.

There's nothing special about that one, just a straight hose. And yes, it seems to be the first one to perish - it's needed changing on most (if not all) 205's I've ever owned.

its the only non plastic fuel pipe in the engine bay, not under any pressure so some generic injection hose would do the trick.

having seen how long the off the shelf rubber injection hose doesn't last these days I'd be looking at the feed stuff BBM do of get Teflon lined with AN fittings.

Try E85 hose. It lasts better than current EFI hose.

Agree with WP. I replaced my hoses with generic rubber injection hose about a year ago and they are showing cracks already. Not sure if having the car sat for most of that time unused exacerbated the problem but you'd surely expect it to last longer than 12 months.

Don't worry Kane it's just poor quality hose these days. The rubber hoses that came off my fuel tank in the van, 1994, were perfect, still soft and uncracked. As you have explained I've also experienced new hose cracking in a worryingly short amount of time.

Not wanting to splash a load on braided and special fitting think I'll just find some quality thicker walled stuff as petert explained,

Well its all coming back out again shortly (oh the joys) so I'll be looking for a more durable alternative, that's for sure.
