Be3 Gear Linkage Question

Recommended Posts

lando9000

Hi,

We've just installed a BE3 box and bits and pieces on an 89 1.6 gti. The car previously had a BE1 box and we've changed most of the bits and pieces for the BE3 conversion done but we're stuck on the gear linkage.

We connected up the linkages as they were with the BE1 box but it doesn't seem they fit. When they're connected, we can only select what feels like third, fifth and reverse.

Are there different linkages for the two boxes or is there an adjustment that can be made to any of the three rods?

Any help appreciated.

linkages are the same.

sounds like someone has had the top arm off and not engaged it with the selector shaft properly.

That's exactly the answer I was looking for. This a 2nd hand box so I'm not totally Sure of its history but say someone had the top arm off hadn't engaged the selector shaft properly, how do you go about re engaging it.

remove the arm, drop the shaft down enough to rotate it a bit and locate it properly, lift it back up and refit the arm.

Great. I'll try that during week at some stage. Thanks for getting back so quick.
