Help! Stuck Passenger Door Lock - Door Won't Open

Recommended Posts

johnnyboy666

So of course my car can smell that the MOT is coming up, and likes to chuck a few ballaches at me last minute.

The passenger door lock is stuck, I cant unlock it from the inside or the outside. I've tried winding the window down and turning the key and pulling the knob (oh-er) but can get it to release.

Tried pulling the door card off and pulling the lever bit as hard as I can, and still wont budge. Tried spraying some wd40 around onto the lock mechanism from inside the door, still no luck.

I'm out of ideas.

Short of cutting the door off and sticking a spare one on, is there anything else I can do??

Cheers

John

its the handle itself you need to lube up, theres a pivot on the back of it

Remove the outer window scraper and make sure the arm on the door handle is down, this stops it from fully unlocking and a quick push down works a treat

Actual handle , steel pivot is rusty and sticking, WD 40`s a waste of time, use an oil can and work it a lot, its hard to get in and you get oil everywhere.

I have had this issue in the past with my old 205 and i ended up removing the door card and basically smashing the lock mechanism with a big screwdriver and hammer until I could access the actual mechanism then lever it open.

It renders the latch / lock mechanism scrap but it got the door open without damaging it. You will of course need a new lock mechanism.

It may sound a bit extreme but after many hours of lubricating the mechanism from the inside and outside, I resorted to violence.

Cheers for the responses, I've had another go at it today and made some partial progress.

I can now lock, unlock and open the door from the outside, and unlock it from the inside, then open it from outside. But still can't open from inside.

Should I continue lubing and working the handle till the interior one works, or would I be better off swapping the handle over?

Annoyingly I took all the handles off my old GT before it was scrapped, but I've put them in a 'safe place' and have no idea where that is.

I had the same problem with an old 205. After eventually getting the door open. Lots of banging to release the latch, I was lucky it opened. Anyway I took the look out - not too hard just takes a bit of time. I spent a while totally degreasing it in a bath. I kept working in until it freed up nicely. Then I re oiled it and re fitted. Never had another problem and it worked a dream. I think over time the locks get gummed up with spray grease and crud.

Right, I removed the handle yesterday and oiled it within an inch of its life, gave it a good working in, refitted it, and no change. Can still open the door from outside but not inside. Then it pissed down with rain.

So presumably it can only be the lock now, so I'll get that off, degreased, reoiled and see if that works. If not I'll just sent the car on fire :)
