Fuse 1 Blown

Recommended Posts

Hey there!

Since I bought this rg cabrio, I've had problem with fuse 1(tachometer, reverse light, digital clock light etc). It gets blown randomly, between a week and 5 min after changing it. I've had an electrician look at it at Peugeot, they couldnt find anything, the fuse didnt even blow there, but on my way back home guess what happened...

So where should I look for the fault?

Try isolating the components one by one, e.g. unplug the tacho and drive around for a while and if the fuse still blows reconnect the tacho and unplug the clock and try again.

Would be worth checking the wiring around the reverse light switch - I can't remember how it is on MA 'boxes, but on 'BE boxes it runs very close to the gearbox casing and the clutch arm, and I've seen several where the wiring has become chaffed and damaged over the years, the sort of thing that would lead to the wire intermittently shorting to earth (the gearbox case) and blowing a fuse with no apparent rhyme nor reason.

Its a good call by Anthony. I was going to suggest the same. The wiring to the switch is live all the time.

I had the same thing develop on mine about 6 months after getting it on the road. Turned out it was the reverse light wire in one of the brown plugs under the dash was rubbing on the steering column. I had a bit of excess loom to lose from the engine swap and hadn't tied it up well enough and occasionally I'd turn the wheel and the Rev counter would drop & clock light would go out... It's fairly unlikely to have happened to you in the same way but you never know!
