Crank Pulley Misalingment.

Hi all.

I have a little problem with the timing of the xu10j2te im rebuilding for racing.

It haves a dkz cam, which seems to have the right timing mark, just as the original turbo cam.

The bottom pulley is a damper type, which i know can slips and false the timing. But i have a toothed pulley too that cant slip, and with it at twelve oclock, i end with the 2 and 3 pistons in tdc or near it. And timed like that, the valves hit the pistons.

I always Was in mind that the timing is with pistons 1 and 4 in tdc, so i dont understand what im missing.

Maybe the pulleys are from a xu9 and the marks are way off? Dont know....

Thanks!

never time these as most other engine's, MDC is what you need

Haynes say that you have to pin the crank pulley or put the crank sprocket in 12 o'clock position, but with this timing set, the valves touch the pistons.

Inner sprocket and outer pulley have the same timing marks, if i pin the 8mm hole in the pulley and then remove the pulley, the sprocket is exactly in twelve o'clock position, BUT the pistons arent in MDC or piston 1 on TDC, which are in TDC are 2 and 3 pistons.

If I put crank 180 degrees out, the engine turns fine (but i assume is not timed properly)

is there any differences between xu9 and xu10 crank sprocket/pulleys? Or even between the same family engines?

I dont understand it.

just pin it all and you will be fine.

keyway is in the same place on all the xu engines

But there is another way to pin it? Flywheel?

My english is not good and maybe im not explaining fine, i pin the engine on crank and cam, and the timing is wrong. I know the pulley can slip along the time, but the sprocket have a mark, which haves to sit in 12 oclock position. Isnt it?

I dont know of any marks, just use a solid or known good pulley on the crank and it will be fine.

there are no marks or holes on the flywheel you can use.

any mark on the crank sprocket is NOT to point to 12.

Ok, i think i have a solid pulley in the garage.

Will try and post some photos of the final timing, and you´ll can see what Im trying to tell.

Picked a solid pulley, and timing is now set using the 10mm hole. Seems that the damper pulley slipped.

Thanks all for the replies.
