Comfy Seats That Fit The 205

Recommended Posts

Grim.Badger

I often have to dive my housemate to appointments etc, and she has fibromyalgia so finds the 205s seats to be very uncomfortable and painful over long distance, especially with the lack of lumabr support. Can anyone think of any other seats that I could squeeze into the 205, maybe something like the seats from an executive Xantia/C5? I don't mind ditching the tilting mechanism if need-be.

This will also allow me to nick the covers for my driver seat, which is truly knackered! (well, actually the leather is fine, it's the stiching and checkered bits that are ropey).

Cheers :)

309 or 405 I have seen used, you'll need some brackets, and lose the door pockets.

c5/xantia will be much too tall and bulky unfortunately, they are very good seats!

I remember someone on here fitting Citroen XM leather seats many years ago. They fitted fine but the side bolsters were insufficient for a 205 GTI, the (relative) lack of body roll meant that passengers just slid sideways off of the seat so whatever you fit make sure they have some lateral support.

Weight is something else to consider, I took the leather seats out of a Xantia once and they were extremely heavy, I didn't weigh them but they were easily twice the weight of a 205 seat, probably more.

Standard seat out of diesel 205 are comfy-all be it you might end up with your face against glass! I had one when my seat was being repaired and couldn't believe how cushioned it was

That picture is a blast from the past! I miss that car. The XM seats were great, very comfy, slightly lacking in support but I liked them a lot. They were very simple to fit also after removing all the electric motors etc. Just some simple brackets and they bolted straight onto 205 subframes. Good luck finding a set these days though.

Actually I think the person I'm recalling was earlier, possibly even before your time ;)

James Turnell's look like they have the 205 tilt mech but I'm sure the ones I'm thinking of had the XM electric mechanism still fitted and they had to wait for the motors to move it forward to let people in the back seat.

TBH I'm not sure, I might be mixing up some different memories now, I've been on here way too long...

309 goodwood seats, comfiest seats I've ever had.

Coupled with a 5dr subframe perfect driving position

I've managed to keep the door pockets on mine

I did try and see if they would fit with the electrics fitted but they were so wide the doors wouldn't shut and the head rests almost touched the roof with all the motors on the bottom. The motors also weighed a hell of a lot!

I'm sure someone fitted a set with the electrics intact, maybe S1 and S2 XMs have different seats or something?

I find 306 seats very comfy and easily fitted.

Maybe they kept the motor for backwards and forwards and just removed the motor for the tilt and converted it to manual as i did. That may have given enough room to fit.

Do the 306 seats fit to the standard 205 seat rails?

No, but get some 5 door ones, can be stripped down to just the bare seat, make simple brackets to weld to 205 runner and bolt to 306 seat! That's my plan as I will be using them.

Is it just me that finds the 20t gti standard seats really comfy? ????

No, I find them very comfortable - but seat comfort is both personal and subjective and hence one persons comfort is another's discomfort.

All cloth 1.6 GTI seats are the most comfortable of the lot IMO.

I'm toying with the idea of some mid 90's audi a8 Quattro full leathers. They look great. Shouldn't be to difficult to fit..

Check first, but if like other Audi seats of the time they have a strange central rail mounting.
