Valve Stem Seals

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Just in the process of rebuilding my head following a clean up and skim. I have just started putting new vale stem seals on which in my previous rebuild experiences can be very tight and difficult to get on square and to my surprise these ones have just slipped on with a firm push with a socket and extension bar.

I have tried to pull them back off and they seem firm and test fitted a valve and they didn't fall off but in your experiences is this correct??

Thanks in advance.

Hi stumpyjag,

Yes,it sounds fine. The stem seals usually have ribs on the inside which are inclined so they slip on easier than they come off.Variations in manufacturers tolerances is normally the cause of the apparent variation in resistance.

All the best

O.T.
