Disc To Ball Joint Clearance

Recommended Posts

bigsheep

I've fit Elise AP 2 pot calipers to 1.9 hubs with 309 wishbones. The problem I have is that I have no clearance between the ball joint (wishbone end) and the inside face of the disc... Has anyone on here done this conversion with Elise discs?

Could it be that I need later or 306 hub flanges that are apparently thicker and so would move the disc outboard?

306 hubs have the same flange offset as a 1.9 so that won't help.

what diameter disc do you need? are they a radial or lug mounted caliper?

Yes I had this problem with AP rotors & Lotus 2 pots.

I was told to grind some material from the wishbone. I didn't really like the idea of this , but I ground some away which helped, but without going too mad it still wasn't enough.

Next step I had some material machined from the bell and caliper bracket to bring the disc further out. Again it helped but not enough.

Finally I had some 2mm spacers made up that went behind the bell. Had 2mm machined from the caliper bracket to centralise the caliper and it was all ok.

What's the kit for exactly and where are you buying them from? Hope they're cheap because it sound a a terrible kit!
