205 Gti Or Euro Rallye

Recommended Posts

Hello Gents,

Ive been a member for a while but now I am on the hunt (or starting to put money aside) for a new 205. I have has 7 in total and I would like to find a keeper.

I now live over in Germany where 205 GTIs are quite rare but look in much better condition than the UK counterparts. In my search which covers all of main land Europe I have uncovered the 205 1.3 100BHP rallye version for a similar price as the GTI.

Has anyone has any experience of these cars? Parts hard to find? Drive/Performance. I understand these are stripped out with even less comforts than the GTI. The rarity of tehse cars appeals to me more than the looks etc. Any advice or opinions on the GTI vs Rallye?

A couple of examples that I pop up albeit it will be a road trip to Italy!

I've got both and have had the Rallye since it was a year or so old and the 1.9 GTI has been in the family since new and my preference is defunitely the rallye. The engine sound, light weight and handling of the Rallye is more fun in my opinion. However although I used mine on the road as a daily driver for 3 years, the 1.9 GTI is a much better choice for general driving.

As an investment, the Rallye will increase significantly in value due to being (relatively) rare. Have a look on 205rallye.net for the many discussions on prices plus the for sale ads. As soon as any Rallye comes up for sale, even wrecks, they sell very very quickly.

Rallye for me too if it is not to be an every day car.Interiors don't wear well, but I think everything else is plentiful. The German spec 1.9 Rallye is a bit lame though as it has the 105 bhp XU9J1AZ engine in it (same as the CTI's).

Good to know that the German version of the 1.9 is different from the UK version. I will take a look over at 205 rallye.Net

I'm the same. i've been toying looking for a LHD rallye. I've never driven one though but expect it to be a quicker/harder version of my XS which, in my opinion is more fun than the 1.9.

I have a 1.9 by the way.

Is that your car? Sounds amazing. 1st gear seems a lot longer than on my xs.

Yes that's my car. It's a verry long first gear (too long for a 1300) as it's got a Quaife gearkit, next four gears are stacked quite closely. It's done 220,000 kilometres and most of those have been at 5000+RPM
