Octane Article. 205 & Mk1 Golf

Nice to see a good article about 205's and mk1 golfs, both very capable and very distinctive cars in a high class glossy mag. It's out this month. Good to see they are getting the recognition they deserve.

A great article in my fav. Magazine, the 205 has featured in it a fair bit in the past.

It's written by a member on here a well respected journo, he owns a D reg 1.9GTI.

Before I read this I thought Andrew Frankel wrote the article, he didn't but It's his car. Back in 1992 he wrote a piece in Autocar about it being a sad day that the 205 was being killed off.

Great article anyway, it's normally one of those two who writes the 205 up!

I told my wife all of this and it promptly sent her to sleep!

Do we know who owns the blue 205 that is featured?

Andrew Frankel (I did mention this!) another very respected journo.

Oh I see. I misread your post as Andrew Frankel owning the D reg 1.9. Which of course you mean John Simister.

I managed to track down a copy of this the other week, had been meaning to post it here.

It's a good article, well written in that classic glossy car magazine style - and beautifully laid out.

Andrew Frankel's car looks fantastic in there (as whisper it does that Golf GTI).

It's nice to read a high-end car mag piece on the 205 GTI, as owners we are more used to the Classic Car Weekly end of things (which I do also enjoy).

That LE of Andrew Frankel looks beautiful. Looking forward to picking up a copy and having a read.

I have been the proud owner of John's D-reg example since June. I understand it to be the oldest 1.9 GTI on the road. John wrote a farewell piece in November's issue of Octane. I'm planning on bringing her along to Pugfest next year!

What month in 1987 was it registered Anchorman? I have a 1st Oct 1.9 with 28,000 miles so perhaps just a couple of months younger than yours

Looks like we have a fair collection of these now, Mine's reg 2 March but I think the chassis number was older than John's (have to double check), Oct is a very late one
