Spares Or Repair My Broken 205?

Hi,

it is with heavy heart that I have to report my beloved 205 has been broken. By me.

I pulled out of a side road onto 2 lanes; a driver on the inside lane let me out so I went for it and didn't see the car in the outside lane...

 

He shaved the front of my 205 off! Lights, bumper valance etc, but nothing structural.

I had just got it going really nicely too, so am quite gutted, however I really have no motivation left to sort it out.

 

I'm tempted to offer it as a spares/repair project as the engine (vts), box (vts + quaife), suspension (all refurbed gti6), brakes (fully refurbed standard), interior (black leather with freshly replaced dash), wheels (refurbed speedlines with PS3s) and largely rust-free body (graphite grey) are all very good.

 

I am going to lose my lock-up garage in which is resides soon and my other cars need attention too.

 

I will put a for sale thread up, but just interested in what people's opinions are on such an offering.

 

I have loved this car for the past 10 years and have replaced just about everything, apart from the speedo, which now reads almost 200k miles!

From the picture it looks like an easy fix, good opportunity to treat the rust on the front panel also. Fix it up over the winter ready for the spring.

That's exactly right and it would be a good opportunity to give it a light front end resto, but I just don't have it in me :-(

If you still like/enjoy the car and funds aren't the issue but time/space/motivation is, could you farm it off to someone like Dan Taylor to do the required works for you (I mention Dan specifically as I know he's done quite a few bits for you in the past)? That way you get back a fully working car to enjoy again next year whilst allowing you to give the rest of the fleet the attention it needs.

 

Obviously if losing the lock-up (and no realistic chance of gaining somewhere else to store the car) means that you need to sell the car, then that's another matter entirely. Gut feeling is that if it's just bolt-on bits then you'd probably be best of fixing it if possible to sell, as you're going to be hammered selling it spares or repairs I'd guess (especially at this time of year)

Thanks Anthony. I have been in close contact with Dan and it is he who has looked after this car for years now, including doing the VTS conversion and suspension/brake refurb.

He is the main reason it was running so well.

 

I have 2 other cars that require space and looking after (both Italian!), and much as I love my 205, I feel this incident is the break I need from it.

I know what you mean about the lack of motivation - it's far more of a limiting factor than skill or money. I have a similar issue with my own 205 - not worth much as it stands, but a complete lack of enthusiasm to do anything about it myself - but when people ask if they can buy it, they want it for a pittance, which I'm reluctant to do because I know that finished off it's worth a reasonable figure.

Think you need to fix it, then either punt it or keep it.

 

It doesn't look an expensive repair assuming the wings are ok.
