Front Strut Suspension Steering

Recommended Posts

m@ttc

Hi guys I have just assembled my front suspension struts with all new parts from the dealers. Only now assembled if I turn the top plate it swivels for steering on the rubber mount rarther than the bearing, it's quite tough to turn too.

I did put some silicon grease on the rubber mount didn't think it would do any harm.

Pretty sure I've assembled it correctly as I stripped an old strut down and copied that one, and copied it to the service box diagram.

Would you say this is anything to worry about? Should I remove the silicon grease?

Thanks Matt.

looks fine, don't forget you have a preloaded 100 lb/in spring against the bearing

Just worried it'll turn on the rubber and not the bearing when fitted to the car.

I'm thinking as its turning where the least resistance is (the rubber) it'll continue to do so once fitted.

Might be a dumb question but how is the preload set?

hope this isn't me being stupid? I guess that the springs own preload when assembled?

Yes, the part compressed state of the spring is applying a load on the bearing.
