309 Gti Driveshaft Bottoming Out On Hard Left Turns

Recommended Posts

Boyd

Hi,

I have fitted 309 gti driveshafts and wishbones on my 205 gti mi16. On hard left turns the right driveshaft is rumbling, which is now think is caused by bottoming out.
The driveshafts are SKF and wishbones 309 gti bought from Spoox, the car is lowered with coilovers.

The engine has been rebuilt from the crankshaft and the driveshafts and wishbones fitted at the same time, after that the problem started.
I have just replaced the release bearing and tightned the gearbox mount as much as possible.

Is this a common problem with SKF driveshafts? Is there a better driveshaft I can try?
I'm considering using a 205 gti driveshaft on the right, and 309 on the left, but it seems odd that only the right is giving problems.

Thanks

If bought from a company then I'd be on the phone to them to sort especially with the premium paid, But from history as a search would bring up since GKN left the UK driveshafts are very hit and miss no matter who from

Have you tried loosening the gearbox mount and pushing the engine over a bit?

Thanks for the replies.
I've tried 2 new SKF 309 gti driveshafts, with both I have the same problem.

Have you tried loosening the gearbox mount and pushing the engine over a bit?

I have just tried this and moved the engine left by about 1 cm, but it made no difference.
I will try a 205 gti driveshaft and see if that works.

have you confirmed the intermediate bearing is fully seated? I've had some with enough corrosion to torque up before seating.
