Another Vts Wiring Question

Recommended Posts

Clapton_Is_God

Hello All,

I've done a fair amount of searching on this and can't seem to find an answer which makes me question whether I've got this right.

I've struggled to find the tacho wire on the VTS loom, red wire numbered 426 that connects to wire 112B on the 205 6 pin plug. Advice I've read here says its the wire that connects to pin 42 on the ECU plug and to connect it to that. I found the wire from pin 42 and its one of the wires that go to the 3 pin, shielded knock sensor.

Is that correct? I'm dubious as I've read many threads and can't find any mention of wire 426 connecting to the knock sensor.

Any help would be appreciated, it's making my head hurt :-(

Which ECU are you using? If it's the Marelli one the same as mine, wire 426 from pin 42 is for the diagnostic socket.

Are you using a rev counter adapter loom, or modifying the clocks?

What phase is the 205?

I've got a wiring diagram i done somewhere i'll look out if noone else can help.

I don't think it sounds right that 426 goes to knock sensor, are you sure you're reading the ecu plug pin numbers correctly? Iirc (best confirm) looking into rectangular plug you read right to left, bottom to top. I.e pin 1 is bottom right.

Just google GTI-6 Marelli diagram, it's in colour and I found it pretty good

Thank you all for your replies.

It's a 1988 phase 1.5 and I am going to use a rev counter adaptor loom.

That link is excellent and is the one I have been using. My ECU is a 1AP.10 Marelli. I was looking at the Xsara VTS one but it seems they're both the same and they both show the tacho as pin 42. They show the knock sensor as pin 15 and 51 but I think you might need the ignition on to check that.

Does that mean I have read it correctly and I do need to tap into the shielded wire going to the knock sensor or is there something I've missed here?

It just seems odd that no one else has mentioned it or seemingly come across it.

Hang on a minute, I think I may have been looking at the wrong half of the diagram. One is marked wire side, the other terminal side, which is which in terms of ECU and ECU plug?

I may have been a bit of a plonker here!

OK, so it's official.... I am a plonker!

I checked the correct pin on the correct half of the diagram and I found it straight away. A classic case of stopping and having a cuppa I believe.

Thanks again for the replies, your help has pointed me in the right direction :-)

This is how I done my Ph1.5 (single plug under dash) with the older GTI6 management, maybe it will help/maybe not. How the rev counter adapter is fitted is also shown which might be handy, I fitted mines in the coil pack area.

I ran new wiring from OS footwell (brown plug) through to GTI6 loom....(and kept the male/female big round plug functional)

Good stuff, thank you for that. I will use it to check mine over.

Hello,

Yes, hopefully so. I used your diagram to fill in the blanks and I'm confident (famous last words that I've got it licked).

I don't know for certain as I'm yet to attempt to start it. I have some time off work next month to build the exhaust and finish off a few odds and ends so watch this space.

The car has been off the road for nearly 8 years and I'm adamant that this year is the year I'm going to get him finished and back on the road. I'm sick of driving a Ford Fiesta!
