Hi

I wonder if anyone could help, what is the silver cylinder pictured for?

Thanks

Jon

Either radiator fan or dim dip resistor for lights I think.

Thank you for your replies. I have traced the wiring back and it is connected to the electric fan so I assume it must be for this.

Thanks

The wiring is a bit of a mess with wires cut everywhere from the previous owner.

The picture below is the relay for the injection system I believe but I have unplugged it and all still works fine. Does anyone see an issue with me removing this all together as I only run Carbs now.

This relay only has 2 wires connected, the blue one being connected to the alternator. Again I am pretty sure it doesn't do anything so what is this meant to do and do you think it would be an issue to remove.

If the tachymetric relay isn't functioning you should fit some sort of alternative relay so the fuel pump doesn't run when the engine stops, otherwise the pump has the potential to fuel a fire if you crash.

There isn't a relay connected to the alternator as standard, what numbers are on the wires connected to it?

Thank you for the advice, I will get this sorted before next season.

The blue wire has a J on it. Goes straight the the terminal at the back of the alternator and then the red wire runs through into the fuse board. Could this already be a relay for the fuel pump?

Thanks

Jon

Hi,

I think it is a 1988, Phase 1. Never seen a registration so not 100% on exact year.

I'm less familiar with phase 1s so I can't be sure that isn't original. All I can say is that the wiring is original Peugeot wire but the relay itself isn't.

Hi

In a normal phase 1 situation the (7pin) Tachymetric relay acts as two relays .. one for the fuel pump and one for the fuel Injection system (which includes the Air Flow Meter (AFM), Supplementary Air Device (SAD) and coolant temperature sensor (CTS)). I would imagine if the car was converted to carb only and the fuel injection system (as detailed) was no longer needed then that would make sense in that the relay is now acting as a fuel pump relay only as you suggested and as jackherer rightly said there is a need for a fuel pump relay (and there isn't normally a wire from the alternator), If you are to cut the wires you are likely to need to replace the existing relay with another albeit smaller relay. That said i am no expert but commentating based on my limited knowledge.

Hi again

I have looked at you pictures again and they appear to be two different relays (not the same relay from a different angle). There normally two separate relays living in the black box under the battery and this may be confusing the issue?
