steve@cornwall 100 Posted November 29, 2015 Yesterday was certainly eventful. A full grown oak tree fell on the A39 yesterday fully blocking both carriageway and closing the main road from Truro to Falmouth for many hours. Unfortunately it fell on our new punto as we were driving home !!! Both my wife and I were taken by ambulance to local hospital where, thank God, we were checked over and discharged very battered and bruised but very very lucky. Not seen the poor car yet but towing garage tells me the front end looks "unreal" both front wheels have crushed under the weight of the tree and I have a branch "straight through the engine block" The main trunking flat on the bonnet directly at the base of the windscreen. We were stopped instantly! Shows what modern cars can withstand and it doesn't bare thinking about the outcome had we taken the 205 . Police have asked to release pics to the media and are to send them to me. Pics to follow.........
Anthony 1,003 Posted November 29, 2015 Eep! Glad you and your wife are alright as that sounds like it could easily have been very nasty indeed! Sounds like you ought to get a lottery ticket this week after that stroke of luck.

AlexRS2782 136 1 Cars Posted November 29, 2015 Blimey - sounds like that made for an eventful incident Good news that you're both okay and that, by the sounds of it, the car took the brunt so you didn't have to. As said previously, it will be interesting to see the pictures.

steve@cornwall 100 Posted November 30, 2015 Take a close look at first pic. It shows the radius of the trunk!!!!! Lucky to survive....let alone walk away. Puntos getting scarce now as they are being replaced by New model and have a 12 week lead time and I have no loan car because it's not being repaired ffs. Looking at 500s now, and thanking lucky stars that in spite of being notoriously careful "ahem" I opted for purchase price gap insurance.
Anthony 1,003 Posted November 30, 2015 Well, probably safe to say that won't t-cut out... As you say, in different circumstances there could have been a very different outcome and it certainly looks like the car (aided by a little luck) did its job protecting you. Rippthrough 98 Posted November 30, 2015 Glad you walked away from it, still the best thing that could happen to a Fiat though

AlexRS2782 136 1 Cars Posted December 2, 2015 Looking at those pics, you were exceptionally lucky - incredible you walked away from that That must have been a massive shock just coming to an abrupt halt with the front end under the weight of that tree. steve@cornwall 100 Posted December 2, 2015 Think we've used up all our lives worth of luck there. We saw from the car that had we been a few inches up or down the road things would have been terribly different, but from the "down the road " pics it seems that a little to the left on the road would have been catastrophic! Apparently, highways have only recently inspected the tree as they had noticed it starting to lean! But concluded it was "probably" safe.(from local resident) Does anyone have experience of gleaning such information from highways/ councils? Maybe freedom of information ? If negligent I may attempt to recover uninsured losses (mainly earnings. Now getting to grips with the insurance paperwork......not fun.
Kane 34 Posted December 2, 2015 Christ! I thought the initial photo's were bad, thats unbelievable. Glad you both got out of it relatively unharmed. Best of luck dealing with the council, from what I've seen they are typically impossible to get money out of for this sort of thing.
