Help Needed On Rear Bumper!

Recommended Posts

Barryboy85

Hi all... I've removed my rear bumper today 2 sides and 2 from the tailgate... I also took the reg plate off and undid the two 13mm nuts on the middle iron ... After a bit of a fight they snapped.. Both of them... Now the question is can the be replace as they look to me as they are part of the main body... Have I f**ked it?

They are part of the rear panel. However all is not lost, there are a few ways to repair.

The way I would do it is as follows.

Carefully linish what is left of the bust studs back flush. Centre punch them and drill a small pilot hole through say 3mm.

Next go up in drill size until 6.8mm (M8 tapping). Now tap the hole M8 thread, there is enough thickness in the stud boss to just get away with it.

Now get a button head M8 screw of suitable length and wind it through from the back of the hole. Apply a little thread lock and screw it right down, hey presto you end up with a stud ready to use again.

If you haven't got tapping equipment you could just drill straight through 8.5mm and nut and bolt the bracket in place.
