Inlet Manifold Coolant Leak

Recommended Posts

Telf

Hi all,

After my epic over fuel thread I've found that post rebuild my inlet manifold is dripping coolant.

I've stripped it off today and re-cleaned both mating faces and cleaned the gasket to ensure there is no grit etc fouling the surfaces.

Rebuilt again and tightened the nuts to the point I was worried I might shear them- took it for a run- still leaking.

I seem to remember seeing similar posts - and something about blocking the holes in the engine casting to negate this issue entirely

As always any help greatfully received.

Paul

"Cleaned the gasket" - they are only any good once, a new one would probably cure your problem.

I have blocked them off but usually only on turbo engines which are putting upwards of 1 bar pressure onto the gasket joint. On a standard engine it shouldn't really be needed. But easy enough to do, tap the holes and thread lock a grub screw in each.

hi tom,

I used a smear of hylomar sealant in the end with a new gasket cos it still leaked - a bit of surface pitting causing it i think

Cheers

M8 grub screw in the coolant holes works nicely!
