Oil Filter Adapter Plate,

Recommended Posts

mhyphenl

I have the water cooled oil filter arrangement. The round plate that fits to the block has a large rubber seal round the perimeter and a copper seal that goes on the large union that holds it all together. My question is, should there be a seal it spacer on the inside side of the union that holds it on? What's to stop incoming oil seeping into outgoing oil and bypassing the filter!?

The only seals are the large o-ring (60x3?) and the copper gasket. If the copper gasket is damaged it will leak. You either need to anneal it or buy a new one. They're only approx. $2. The pipes have small o-rings (approx 14x1.5?) on each end, thus four in total.

Hi Guys,

It's the one with the water cooled unit attached to the gear box:

By the looks of the image it is just the copper washer and the big rubber seal. It just seems like there should be something separating incoming and out going oil a bit other than just the thread, thats part number 3 going on to the thread in the block (part 15) they don't even butt up against each other in any way so there is just about 1cm of thread to act as separation of the two flows!?

Even with just the thread to seal it I can't imagine there being more than the odd drop of oil getting past. Certainly nowhere near enough to worry about.

I guess so. I think I was just a little paranoid that I'd either lost something or it wasn't there when I got the car and it should have been.
