Chris Evans - 205 Gti Purchase

My respect for the man has just increased, that takes him to 1.

There's no denying celebrity power to increase the prices though, all it needs is a mention in the next itteration of Top Gear and that'll add another £500 to the prices hopefully, we may even start to see an end of perfectly decent GTis being pulled apart because they are worth more that way.

great stuff, the prices will be going up.

My Mrs rang me and told me to buy another!!

not kidding!

Mind you, she's had to come home from work poorly, so might not remember saying it!

It's the one from Cotswold Collectors Cars.

If it's like the one I saw at the weekend then I'd want to know the beam had been done but otherwise this was a very nice car. Looked like it had been stood doing nothing by the mileage on the paperwork is came with hence the low mileage and my thoughts on the beam.

Damnit, he's annoying enough as it is and now we drive the same car. This is testing my loyalty to 205's!

Let's face it, it'll be the only time most of us can say we own the same car as Chris Evans lmfao.

But not as mental as £60k for a series 1 RS Turbo.

Nice looking...I'd want much lower miles and/or a full resto for that kinda money though...

It'll still leak in the rain I bet ????????

Didn't he lose a load of cash on the Gto? Something to do with the wrong engine? Whoops.

think that series 1 turbo only had about 3.5k on clock and had no reserve cannot believe it went for 60k.

Almost £13k for a 205? Mental.

Mental to us, pocket change to him.

If I was a multi-millionaire, and one night I'm sitting at home with a massive craving for - I dunno, lets say doughnuts - and there's only one place nearby I can get some, but they want to charge me £50 for a bag of those tasty glazed little bastards, am I gonna say "no way, it's a matter of principle, stick your battered rings up your....battered ring", or am I just going to swallow my pride along with that beautiful fried bag of cholesterol?

Weird analogy I know, but I think you get my point.

There are cars out there that have sold for more than that, recently.

i know of one in NI that sold for £24,000. was very low miles and totally unrestored. i guess they are worth as much as someone is willing to pay.

These cars are worth much more than you think. Those of us that lusted after these cars as teenagers are now wealthy enough to pay a premium for one.

Given that probably 80% of all UK 205's are owned by people on here, surely we can start a monopoly and get the prices rising even further! Along with the mint Series 1 RS Turbo, a v. low mileage Sierra Cosworth went for ca. 100k! Crazy money, especially as the escorts really aren't a good drive.

I don't think its anywhere near 80%, there's far more still registered than you think!.

I'd agree with that. This is still an enthusiast forum, and plenty of owners out there who either don't know about this forum, have no interest in partaking in any sort of club (internet based or otherwise) or simply are too old-school to use the internet much. Not to mention those who are simply too busy to "muck about" on owners forums.

I'd be amazed if the active users (emphasis on active) of this forum account for anything near 50% of the 205s still alive.

Agree with the above. I know lots of folk with 205's. I would estimate 20% of those are not on forums and not interested. The next 50% have only ever registered on a forum to find out some info, but don't regularly use one. The last 30% use the forum on some kind of regular basis.

Off topic, but why does a BBC personality need such a big salary? When you are buying million pound cars and £13k is pocket change, something has gone wrong. At least i don't have a TV licence!......just the same bloody car as Chris Evans.
