Rev Counter Only Revving To 3000Rpm, But Car Seems To Rev "fine&#3

Disconnected all the connectors from the fuse board and I think I've reconnected all (there are a few single wires that I didn't connect as some if not all are unused as far as I remember). Started the car and now the rev counter isn't working properly. It's not reflecting the full range. I'm hoping it's something that I forgot to connect but not sure where to start.

Another question, can I drive the car in this state? Need to get to work.

if i'm not mistaking , the rev counter is fed from the distributor lead . the problem is very odd to me, maybe the connector is loose or there is some corrosion in the connector . check that...

also check the blue connector (i think it's four pins) in the instrument cluster (that the rev signal for the rev counter)

Ok, will check. I can't imagine what could've gone wrong. It was working perfectly before I disconnected the wiring at the fuseboard. Now the rev counter wont drop past 1800, even with the car switched off, but the needle moves through the rest of the range now..... :(

The rev counter itself is faulty if it isn't dropping all the way when the car is off.

OK. Will see what's going on when I get the car running again.

Lol. Resolved this last night. Took apart the dash dials and guess what I found...

One of the stickers at the back of the tachometer had actually fallen into the gauge, and was stopping the mechanism from turning all the way back to 0. I guess the adhesive at the back of the stickers had dried up after all these years and the stickers decided to drop off now...

I suspect your climate might have influenced that, it'll probably start happening to UK cars in about twenty years when they've been sufficiently sun baked ;)
