camgti 56 Posted November 17, 2015 Awesome man! Great find. It must be super rare in Mexico! Looks like a solid shell. The interior needs a good clean! Its lucky that the dash looks to be good. What are your plans?
Edp 67 3 Cars Posted November 17, 2015 Wow can't be many 205s in Mexico! Good colour too.
jackherer 543 Posted November 17, 2015 That's got a lot of potential, what plans do you have for the engine? Were any other Peugeot/Citroen cars sold in Mexico that could donate a motor?
Mr_bugatti 10 Posted November 17, 2015 Hi, thank you all ... I will be needing a lot of help , would be great if someone can help track right side window glass and ship to mexico , I saw a afew on ebay but sellers do not want to ship . The car es pretty much complete ... no engine , the block is there but no pistons no head , intake and all other parts are in the trunk ... want to just try and fit any other engine ... still dont know what will be an easy swap , I do want to use the original trans .... We don't have citroen cars in mexico ... peogeot cars began selling around the year 2000 , I wonder if a 2000 engine will bolt on with out any major mods , I really dont know much about peugeot .. and I am pretty sure i will not find any other 205 gti cars in this country .... Andy_C 50 Posted November 17, 2015 There is a guy in the U.S. (California I think) who owns a silver 205 and some older Peugeots. I'll try and find him as he's a lot closer to you and might be able to help finding parts locally.
jackherer 543 Posted November 17, 2015 (edited) peogeot cars began selling around the year 2000 , I wonder if a 2000 engine will bolt on with out any major mods It might be possible, do you know which models were sold there? edit: According to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Automotive_industry_in_Mexico#PSA_Peugeot_Citro.C3.ABn it was in 1997 and they sold the 306 and I think I'm correct in saying that any engine that fits a 306 will fit a 205. Some 206 engines will fit, i.e. the smaller capacity TU series, but they wont fit to your gearbox/transmission. The larger capacity EW series will need a new mount to be welded in and also wont work with the existing gearbox as far as I know. But I am almost certain that all 306 engines will bolt to your existing mounts. And the larger capacity XU series of engines will definitely work with your gearbox. welshpug 1,657 Posted November 18, 2015 no welding required with an EW engine, just buy a satchell top arm and the box and engine from a 206 will go straight in, may even be standard 205 shafts, its no more tricky than a gti6 conversion really, other than management if you can;t find anyone who's cracked the multiplex stuff. Mr_bugatti 10 Posted December 29, 2015 Hi , there ... done some a lot of cleaning , I am very happy with this proyect , all parts were inside the car , I really did not sea the inside the car , I just bought it with without thinking ... once it made it home I started to notice there were a few parts missing but after I oooked inside and started to clean up I found all parts were there , the front grill , there rear grill , window seals , many small interior parts ... once I washed and cleaned the interior I removed the rear bumper and all the side moldings repaint. I did not want to use sanding paper because I wanted to keep the original texture so I applied some brake fluid with paint brush and it worked just fine , the old paint began to bubble and I was able to remove using a hard brush and water .... here are some pics. Glass came in from the UK ...
pugdamo 111 2 Cars Posted December 29, 2015 Looks very nice,it's good what a bit of time spent cleaning will do, that should also help give you a lot of motivation to get the engine in and fitted.
murtaghp 3 Posted December 30, 2015 That's a great idea with the brake fluid. My trims are pretty much the same and I have been trying to work out how to get the paint off for ages.
Mr_bugatti 10 Posted December 30, 2015 Thanks... The brake fluid works great but make sure you use it on a sunny day ... It works better when it is a hot sunny day...
Mr_bugatti 10 Posted December 31, 2015 I am very ver happy with this car ... I had seen this car pass by my house a few times about ten years ago ... I had read and seen a few videos before and liked it very much ... When I saw it drive by my house I was impressed and was aware that I could never have one .. i have had many vw gti's in the past ... Mk1, mk2, mk3 and now i have mk4 tdi that I bought about 8 years ago .. A few months ago a friend came to visit an told me about this car , he said a person he knows was selling a rare car and he new I liked gti's ... He discribed it and gave me the persons phone number but decided not to call... I thought the car was going to be in very poor condition... Then he stopped by my house and asked me if I went to see the car And I explained to him that it may not be on good condition and I did mot have time or money to look for parts and deal with rust ... Then one day I had nothing to do and since the car was only 20 km away from my house i decided to go look at it... It is obviously the same car I had seen years ago and was actualy in very good condition , the owner said it was a kid that came from france to study and brought the car with him and returned but sold the car to someone and then sold to him and now sold to me ... i have been serching the web for other cars like this in mexico and found nothing ... Lots of rare cars but no peugeot 205's ... A few in USA . This is not a restoration because the car is in very very good condition , it is more like a project car... I did not even ask why this person was selling it I just told him to hold it for me one day and paid the next .. I am still thinking a lot about the engine , I dont know if I should try to keep all original and buy the original 1.9 engine or try to fit the later peugeot engine or maybe even try to fit a 1.8 turbo vw engine ...
Banjo 1 Posted February 19, 2016 Don't fit vw engine, try and keep it original, would be lovely having non rusty 205s here
Mr_bugatti 10 Posted March 19, 2016 Hello , I have been doing a lot of research ... this may be the only 205 gti in my country ,.... we do have peugoet here but they got here around 1999 o 2000 ... parts are hard to find even for those . Ok after a lot of surfing the internet I made contact with a person here in my country and he is a peugeot spacialist and this person knew what I was talking abou t when I said I had a 205 gti , he actually had an engine from a 405 that is also very rare car here in mexico , he told me it would bolt on directly into my transmision ... the engine was not cheap but was a lot cheaper than buying one from the UK ... I bought my car with the incomplete engine , no cilinders , no head ...nothing just the block but I found in the rear hatch the intake manifold , injectors , alternator and a few other bits .. today i started cleaning a few parts of the engine and was figuiring out where everything goes .. the block i bought is a bit diferent from the original 205 but with a few mods i am sure i can make this car run ... I have bought a few new parts and refurbished the clutch ... I will try to get the engine into the car this weekend and slowly try to fit a new drstributor because i dont have one , will have to figure out how to adapt the alternator belt tensioner , just small details like that ... all is good , I am very happy with this car , it is in great condition with no rust and no accidents ... please forgive my spelling , my english is a bet rusty ..LOL
Tom Fenton 1,542 Posted March 19, 2016 You will need to do some work on the inlet manifold, the head port shapes are different, it looks like it is a 2.0 8v engine you have there. I think you will also need to get rid of the plastic cam cover/air box, as i think it will hit the bonnet in a 205. Someone who has fitted this engine in a 205 will know I am sure. Mr_bugatti 10 Posted March 19, 2016 Hi , the intake fitts with no mods ... Not sure what kind of mods you mean ... I am hopping i cam keep this head valve cover because the original 1.9 does not fit... I will have to di research on that . Still have a lot of things to do to get it running ... welshpug 1,657 Posted March 19, 2016 the intake ports are a different shape, the original inlet manifold from the xu10 would be better.
