Uprated Shaft Problem

Recommended Posts

Here's one for you I bought some uprated shafts. But when fitted one was to long and the other wouldn't mate correctly to the wheel bearing. ie when tightened to much play in bearing on closer inspection the chamfer was steeper than the old original cv joint if that makes sense.I sent one shaft back (the one that was to long and was told it was correct and when I questioned the other one I was told that my car must have something seriously wrong with it.Everything in the car is new or refurbed and to correct the issue I bought some standard 1900 cv joints and fitted them to my Quaife shafts and surprisingly they got ok.Can anybody shed some light on this do the shaft lengths varie on age (I personally didn't think so).And also are the hub wheel bearing interface different dependant on age as that is what the guy told me and that the shafts where spot on and I couldn't have my money back needless to say I told him to stick one of them and the other I chucked in the skip in temper as he also was after me paying courier fees to collect them and return them.

Without knowing the spec of the shafts I know that recon shafts can give the same issues, But I did have one which had a later replacement flange in the hub which was wrong so allowing the hub to wobble around, replaced the hub and all was fixed. Unfortunately where the flange came from I don't know as it was on the car already.
