Gti6 Engine Bracket To Mi16

Recommended Posts

my3AWDgst

I decided to replace MI16 intake manifold for GTI6 unit and I would like to upgrade to GTI6 engine bracket so I can have auto tensioner and P/S pump up front. I'm completely unsure if GTI6 engine bracket can bolt up to XU9J4 engine block and being in US no one has attempted to do anything more then maintenance on these vehicles so my resources are very limited.

Have anyone attempt at such a thing there in UK?

I'm also in same time upgrading for GTI6 engine oil pan.

Thanks in advance.

no, it doesn't fit the alloy block.

dont forget that the sump is deeper so you will need to extend the oil pump pickup

... or lose the spacer/stiffener plate and use the bolts from the GTi-6 (or other XU10) sump.

Extending the pickup is the better option though, as that addresses the oil starvation issue better than just the baffled sump on its own does.

I was planning on extending the pick up...

Thank you.

Little off topic here but would you guys recommend using GTI6 oil pump or should I keep MI16 oil pump?

Thanks.

I personally think it's neater and easier to use the Mi16 pump. Plumbing is shorter and far less complicated. Mount the tank on the strut brace so the oil dumps directly into the top of the pump. Can't seem to upload a pic at present.

I think that 6 set up looks better. I'm not big fan of Vbelt and MI P/S pump adjustment. I'll order 6 set up and I'll just have someone here make my custom engine bracket.

Thank you for advice guys. I got everything coming from one seller.

Is there any advantage to be gained for using 6 engine oil pump?

You can mount a chain guard on it, thats about it. It also has a higher pressure relief spring, but that can be transferred into the mi16 pump without modification whereas the chain guard cannot.

I used a gti6 oil pump in my mi16, but only because i had one spare and i thought i might as well, its not really an upgrade.
