205 Stdt Starting Problem

Hi, I have got a 205 STDT that I have been meaning to do some work on but havent had the time. It has sat for a while without a battery but has had one connected and started every now and then with no problems starting at all. It was then moved a short distance and left for a few days, came back to start it and the glow plug light did not come on and so wouldnt start.

 

I cant figure out for the life of me why it wont start all of a sudden, have had a better look today and have found what I believe to be, an aftermarket immobiliser, but even when disconnecting that under the steering wheel it doesnt seem to make any difference! We had the car running today but from running a lead directly from the + on the battery to one of the glow plugs and it started straight away!

 

Can anyone suggest anything I should look at or change? As I said, it used to start fine but then all of a sudden no glow plug light on the dash and doesnt start, turns over but doesnt start.

 

Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks in advance!

Faulty glow plug relay? Big blue one under the bonnet IIRC.

Glow plug timer, not always blue sometimes black.

Its on the passengers side lowdown.

Try pulling the multiplug smearing it with petroleum jelly , then plug and unplug it a few times.

Often get manky connections.
