Dash Cam Advice

Hi guys

I have recently bought a seat leon cupra R whilst the pug is awaiting parts.Im using the leon as my daily and when I bought it ,it was nearly mint condition bodywork wise .Now since the 3 months ive owned it its developed scrapes all over it .I was abit pi$$ed at first when I discovered someone had scraped the corner of the rear bumper but I thought it happens. But over the last couple of weeks someone has scraped my rear wheel arch and this morning I have discovered someone has done the other side of the rear bumper.

Now im not sure if its happening in work or outside the house as I go to work in the dark and usually come home in it as well .So ive been thinking of getting a dash cam to see if it catches anything .

So my question is can anyone recommend anything that would possibly do this maybe a motion or sound operated one? that prefrebly wont flatten the battery over night .

cheers guys

I'm not an expert, but I think most dashcams tend to be set to come on and off with the ignition. Have you thought about a 'nanny-cam' type hidden camera? They would be more likely to be battery operated and motion sensitive.

From what I have read you can get some with parking mode so they come on an off to preserve there battery life .Some are motion and sound operated but theres so many to choose from .

oh an ill have a look for nanny cams now .I just wanted something 12v so I didn't have to keep taking it out to charge it because ill end up forgetting

Hi,

I have a Blackvue DR650GW-HD, and as far as I'm concerned it's pretty good. The image quality is perfect (you can make out number plates, even in the dark), and I like having 2 channels, so I can video the guy rear ending me, as well as the guy pulling out in front.

It has a parking mode, which will only record video if the g-meters detect an 'event,' the thresholds of which you can set. I've left mine at default, and it records a clip if I close a door or the bonnet for example, but not just at gusts of wind.

In order to solve the battery draining issue, I fitted mine using a PowerMagic device. This cuts the power to the camera if the battery voltage drops below a set level (you have a choice of two). I found that the concept works, but it seems to cut the camera way too early for my liking. It only lasts a day after a full battery charge, which doesn't sound right to me. Also, (i'm just discovering) that the camera is shut down whenever I turn the lights on, which is no good at all, so you might want to shop around on this. I know there are similar systems around.
