205 1.6 Gti Engine Rebuild

Hi all,

 

I am new to the forum. After reading a lot of technical info on this forum over the years I finally registerd for some questions. My 205 got damaged by a police car 4 weeks ago. the right rear needs to be replaced, luckily the insurance company knows that the value is rising. In the same time I want to rebuild the engine and give it a bit more poke. Its the phase 1 engine (180z) with the small valve head and 105 hp. It is nothing near 105 bhp anymore.

 

I want to upgrade to the 1.9 head with the bigger valvea that got standard on a 1.6 in 88 (115hp). Is this a straight swap or are there different types of those heads?

 

I have seen full rebuild kits for the engine on pug1off. Does anybody have any experience with them, are they any good?

 

Any other good performance upgrade suggestions with stock internals.

the 1.9 head wil bolt on, without a problem...

i'm currently rebuilding a 180A engine up to PTS spec(125BHP).

to keep the Original look and keep it like pts made it, i'm mounting the bigger valves in the 105 bhp head, but is a huge work.

head has to be reshaped, valveseats recut or replaced etc...

 

i think the 1.9 or late 1.6 gti head is a great update on a moderate budget and using stock parts.

in 85 PTS brought a performance package on the market to beef up the power from105 to 125bhp.

basicly it was so good they desighted to use these parts(cam, biggervalves) as standerd for the 86 115bhp model...

the aditional diffences are a beefed up compression, other sparkplugs, reinforced headgasket and the rev limiter changed to 7000rpm...
