Does The 205 Gti Have An Idle Compensator Or Fast Idle Solenoid?

Recommended Posts

Just wondering if the 205 is fitted with a sensor that should increase the idle speed if the lights and other electrical circuits are switched on, or if the idle should remain constant.

I'm asking as when I switch on my headlights, my idle speed drops about 500rpm. I figure this isn't expected behaviour and just trying to rule out stuff.

No there's no form of idle compensation, at least not on the non-CAT Jetronic models.

The idle speed will normally drop a little with electrical load as a result, but it shouldn't drop as much as 500rpm - more like 100-200rpm with full load applied.

(the CAT equipped Motronic ones I believe will compensate to a degree with ignition timing and certainly they give a far more stable idle compared to Jetronic)
