Driving Lights Wiring.

Recommended Posts

Hi folks I'm looking for a little help with fitting front driving lights to my 1989 1.8D. I have searched on here and found various helpful threads, so far I have learned that I need to find yellow plugs somewhere around the headlight area , but i cant find any even removing the headlights i still cant find any.

I also know that the relay for the driving lights should be the first one (from the left) on the fuse board in the glovebox , mine doesnt have one.

What I need to know is, if there is no wiring already there for the driving lights is there a loom available that just plugs in somewhere on my loom? Is it part of a gti engine loom?

Can I just run my own wires to the relay board in the glove box? or would I be easier just buying a driving light wiring loom kit, like the ring ones available on ebay, with its own fuse and relay for about 15 quid?

I have just ordered my driving lights, need to get my finger out and get the front valence painted now!

Cheers steve.

The driving light relay is on the bulkhead under the bonnet, not in the fusebox.

I think the short answer is that your car won't have the wiring in place and the easiest solution will be a wiring kit as you describe.

Are you sure? I always thought the two under-bonnet relays were dim-dip and the air horn (on 1.9 models only) and the driving light one was on the left of the main fuseboard?

Anthony is right. The driving lamp relay is definitely the one in the fusebox.
