Nothing coming up on Google, though the name and typeface on that badge looks familiar. It's probably a base spec convertible, special edition (maybe from a specific dealer) that someone has added the CTI/GTI kit to and badged it as a CTI.

And we all know how reliable the DVLA are! There are some people with standard GTIs registered as 1FMs!

Looks more like a car lot special to me, a few stickers to jazz up a mundane car they were struggling to move.

You can see the original red showing through on the green strip in the rear bumper where the paint is flaking off.

its 1580cc, so it will be a CTi, CJ would be 1360cc.

None of my 205 reference books mention a Malibu so like you I reckon it was probably a dealer/owner tweak. I believe the CJ came to the UK in 88 which would make it Series 1.5 and this vehicle has a Series 1 dash, so it would suggest it is a CTi.

I should imagine when it was done, it probably looked really nice.

There's a lot of effort that's gone into it if it was done of the time.
