How To Push The Piston Into The Liner

Recommended Posts

Hey all,

I'm wondering how you fit the piston with the new piston rings ring into the new liner?

I hav a compression band to compress the piston rings. Do you fit it from above the liner or underneath?

Thanks Peter, but is it not possible then to use the compression band from midlock? What is the disadvantage of this?

You can use such a device but the tapered ring is a lot smoother to use.

I used the compression band and went in from the top of the liner, so the 2/3 piece oil ring goes in first. Make sure the band is lubricated and tight as poss then gently but firmly knock in with wooden handle of a mallet or anything softer than the piston. Worked ok for me but i did once break a middle ring because I'd managed to get the inner lip of the compression band caught on the gap edge of a ring and so it didn't tighten enough.
