Compression Test & Wet Test Failure - Potential Head Gasket!?

Recommended Posts

johnhenry

Evening all,

After an evening of stripping the 205, I've basically did a dry compression test on it, got some low readings compared to others on here
1 - 150psi

2 - 155psi

3 - 152/3 psi‹

4 - 148/9 psi

Have seen others in the 180 range and healthy 1.9 8 valves.

So I carried out a'wet' test, as the instructions, dropped a teaspoon of oil into cylinder 1, made 165psi - still low, a little worried. Cylinder 2 - gauge kept on climbing, went from 170 to about 190 and then to 210 then blew past the seal on the compression tester, had stopped cranking by this point. Then oily smelling smoke stated smoking out of cylinder 3.

Ive cooked the head gasket between 2 and 3 haven't I?

Also - if anyone wants to comment on why the results were so low then massively spikey would be welcome.

Massively loosing the will to care with the 205, all i want to do is enjoy it and it just refuses to work. every step of the way there is always an issue.

a very annoyed and passed it, john ‹
