Gti6 Running Rich

Recommended Posts

oldkiteman

Finally got my gti6 on the road,It runs great, tickover nice and smooth and no stalling. The only problem is that its very rich on tickover,no chance of passing a straight MOT.The CO reading is about 6%.The engine is a phase 2 VTS with black injectors,Do I need to swap them for 306gti6 ones? If so,are all 306 gti6 injectors the same, and what colour are the ones i need? Also,do i need the rail and pressure regulator?Rob

GTi-6 (and Ph1 VTS) injectors and FPR are different to Phase 2 VTS ones.

There is only one type on '6's - green injectors and a 3 bar FPR. Ph2 VTS has black injectors and a 3.5 bar FPR.

There's a few other parts that are different between the two as well as you're probably aware.

not sure on the fpr, check the numbers on it.

injectors are different indeed, weber iw204's which are green topped grey body, same on all gti6 and phase1 xsara vts.

do you have the green two pin temp sender fitted and a 306/phase1 xsara lambda?

I can check the fuel pressure is 3 Bar.The temp sensor is green and I have wired up a diagnostic plug and the temp readout from the ecu is the same as the guage. The only other important sensor which is VTS is the MAP sensor. There appear to be 2 types, one with an oval plug and one with a square one.I am using the oval one.As regards Lambda sensor,I wired up the front VTS one.I bench tested it with a blowlamp first and looking at the live data,it goes into closed loop at 2-3000 revs but drops out at tickover and goes rich.I think injectors are the way to go and they must be letting too much fuel in at tickover.Has anyone got any?Rob

the map sensors are the same, just a different plug.

I'm not sure if the 3 plug lambda will work with a 1 plug ecu.

if you have diagnostics hooked up you should be able to look up the live readings and compare them to expected values.

Yes the lambda is OK.The live data shows it oscillating at higher revs but goes rich on tickover which i think is down to injectors.
