Exhaust Without The Mid Silencer ?

Recommended Posts

idoari

Hi,

i just bought bosal rear silencer for my 205 GTI 1.6. since the previous owner installed aftermarket remus exhaust , my exhaut system doesn't have mid box.

at first, i wanted to order the mid box as well, but since it's attached to a long tube i cannot send it to Israel.

my questions are:

1. what is the purpose of this mid silencer? why do you need two?

2. what will happent if i install the rear box without the mid box?

thanks

Idoaricha

I had a custom made stainless steel exhaust made for mine, it has no middle silencer as I went for the mid sport option. I assume if I went with standard there would have been a middle silencer.

I do like the extra bit of rasp you get when accelerating and it does sound nice without it being loud and looking like a prat. That said the only annoyance is when your cruising on the motorway because you get a constant humming dull noise.....lucky for me I don't do many motorway miles so is great fun around the country lanes.

I currently have extractors, no middle muffler and a Lukey rear muffler. Sounds great, little bit of drone at certain revs, but not at motorway speeds. I do notice that it pops and gurgles a little on overrun which I would imagine is due to the middle muffler being removed. My 406 coupe V6 did the same thing when I removed the middle muffler.
