How Rare Are Phase1 1.9

Recommended Posts

Anthony

I wouldn't like to guess to be honest - logically more will be 1.6's than 1.9's, but I don't believe the information is publicly available to confirm exact numbers remaining of each engine per year.

Even if there was, I'm assuming that the DVLA data that HowManyLeft uses is based on the engine size stated on the V5 document rather than the engine size the car originally came with, so any 1.6's with a declared 1.9 engine conversion would distort the figures somewhat as will any errors that have crept in over the years - over 10% of licensed cars are listed as "unknown" engine capacity for example.

Indeed, the engine size figures need taking with a large pinch of salt given they add up to a vastly different in number compared to the total licensed cars figure so I'm not sure what's going on

Hi, i've just joined the forum and thought i'd mention (bragging of course) that after over 12 months of looking i purchased a totally mint and very original phase 1 1.9 (registered 2nd Oct 1987) with 28,000 miles on the clock in may this year.

I went to pugfest this year and of all the cars there i could not see another phase 1 1.9 so would say they are now pretty rare.

Wow that's low miles... Couldn't have been driven much..what colour is it? Any pictures? May I ask how much you paid for it?

An oldish chap had it for the first 24 years of it's life and it was used as a second weekend only car. It's cherry red - if you go to www.sherwoodrestorations.co.uk and select the "previously supplied" section you'll see pictures of it on there. You'll also see how much i paid for it! It's probably one of the most expensive ones i've seen but it was a case of don't pay it and go home empty handed or pay it knowing safe in the knowledge that i will never find a better one and must surely now be the proud owner of one of the very best ones left.

peteb, that's one nice car you have there! Great to see cars like that in existence, and with the provenance too. I hope it continues to get cherished. Will look out for you at PF'16!

Very nice car.... Hope to see it in the flesh one day. Did it have to have a lot of work done to it to get to that condition?

Just from reading the page about your car it said it had a major overhaul... Just wondered what condition it was in before all the work...

The previous owner was apparently a millionaire collector and as it had done virtually no miles in the last 5 years or so, when he bought it he had recommissiong work undertaken - suspension overhauled, all engine gaskets and belts replaced, all the underside repainted and waxoyled, alloys refurbed, new brakes and tyres, etc.

That's a cracker Pete, you must bring it along to the West Yorkshire group meet some time, it would be great to see you there!

seeing that dash takes me back to B490CCP my first 205, which I bought back in 1992 I think!

I have been following the yorkshire meet threads on pscuk and have been tempted to come along but not sure i dare leave it unattended in a pub car park (sounds daft i know but i'm very protective of her). There'll be some shows to go to next year so

you might see her there - harewood house, hebden bridge, skipton, etc.

That's the worry I have with prices going through the roof for exceptionally tidy, low mileage examples - they almost become so precious and irreplaceable that they stop getting used and enjoyed as they should and instead just rolled out a few times a year for the odd show. I can understand why of course, but it's a shame for a car that really is there to be driven and enjoyed :(

In some ways that is why I like the one that I'm currently tooling around in - it's presentable - if far from mint - and hence I don't give care about leaving it in a supermarket car park, commuting to work in it and leaving it parked outside - the cars purpose is to be used and enjoyed. Time will tell whether my mindset will change with the tidy example I've just bought myself - I hope not, because I've always loved the carefree enjoyment I've had from 205's over the years.

I agree i'm torn as every time in sit in it and start it up i just want to go driving but then i also want to keep the mileage as low as possible. I think the answer is defo to get another one that i can use as a daily driver, just got to convince 'er indoors!

My car is a December 87 ph1 1.9. it's used for shopping trips, work and even tip runs, I think I might start to be more careful with it!

I think the trips to the tips should maybe stop???? but the main important thing is that you still use it!

I think it's a great shame to hide them away never to be seen or enjoyed on the road.

It's easily done I suppose. The car you bought because it's so great to drive you end up tucking away and only using it for special occasions. Mines on 61k and I'm the same.
