Power Supply For Obd Socket, In Fuse Box Area?

Recommended Posts

2052006

In the process of properly wiring in my 16 pin obd socket (for my Vts engine). I have connected the two earth wires to the earth block on the underside of the dashboard, above the fuse/relay box. I now need a suitable place to connect the switched/permanent feed.

1. Does it matter if it's switched or permanent?

2. Where in the fuse box area would be best? Is there a suitable wire I can splice into, or even a spare unused socket on the fuse board?

Trying to work it out using the Haynes manual is just confusing me....

There are a couple of spare switched and permanent live pins on the fusebox.

The easiest place is the spare 3-pin socket on the left of the front row. Pins 2+3 are permanent lives connected through fuse #7, and pin 1 is a switched live that goes through the unused 2nd relay socket and fuse #6. So if you plug a relay in then pin 1 of the socket will get 12V with the key in the accessory position.

Ok, thanks both. Do I need to wire in both switched and permanent for it to work properly then? Or, if I only wired in the switched, I'd have to have the key turned to "On", for it to connect to my laptop - I presume?
