Floppy Gearchange

Recommended Posts

christopher

The gearchange on my TU24 Rally car is really floppy.

The mechanism look similar to the standard BE one so posting here for a wider audience

How can improve this??

  • The rods look newish
  • there doesn't seem THAT much play in the Y bracket that swings.

Could this be in the gearshift mechanism itself?

What is the experience with this?

Recently I just fitted some uprated rods from Miles, and bronze bushes in the gear lever and the Y bracket bush set from BBM and the difference is unbelievable. Gone from stirring porridge to a rifle bolt change.

Thanks

I've got some rods from miles already. I've ordered these from Stu.

The gear linkage looks like a GTI one, but on Servicebox its looks a bit different for MA boxes.

I'll give it a go and see if it fits.

Anyone tried the quickshift from BBM? Not sure if these are allowed in the regs yet though

the roll pin securing the selector arm to the shaft poking out back of the box is a common place to have excessive movement on an MA box.

Miles

The bush is different on the TU engine car's, it's more like the 306 set up, The Q/S is only for the BE box but be interesting to see any reviews as most of them are allot longer or the shorter side is done

Depending on the year of the MA box the selectors have a silly plastic bush which locates them in the syncro hubs and can give allot of travel, and as WP said the selector arm on the back of the box is know to wobble around
