Removing Magnex Exhaust

Recommended Posts

I'd like to remove the Magnex exhaust on my PH 1.5 as it has a bit of a rattle that's pretty annoying. I would like to keep the manifold though so is there a way of mounting a standard system on to the magnex manifold? Would a PH2 system bolt on? It has the spring joint off the manifold.

yes a phase 2 system with the downpipe lopped off at the appropriate length will do the job.

And just welded onto the manifold or retain the spring joint somehow?

you need to retain the flexi, just join it where the magnex fits.

I can't imagine it'd be too easy though. The joint would be in a different place and it'd have to be all cut up and welded, no?

Was thinking maybe get a standard system, grind off a few bits either end and then use this to join them together at the bottom of the manifold: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Exhaust-Clamp-on-Flexi-Tube-Joint-Flexible-Pipe-Repair-57-x-300mm-2-25-x12-inch-/131373134860?hash=item1e9672f40c

Failing that i'll see if I can get hold of a standard mani and just change the whole lot back over.

Any idea of the diameter of a magnex system?

it will need cutting wherever you join it, not necessarily welding, last one I did was a nice sleeve fit and clamped up nicely

Find one of the power flow type dealers and get them to cut out the standard magnex middle box which is probably the source of the rattle and weld in a new one. Job done.

But then if it develops a rattle i'm back to square one. I think i'll get hold of a full standard system and a flexi joint and see what I can come up with. The Magnex is a bit loud for me too really. Failing that i'll just change the manifold too.

standard systems fail too!

that said, my 205 has had a longlife exhaust on it for ten years without any rattles.

But much easier to replace bits on a standard system!
