Heated Rear View Mirrors - Can The Glass Be Simply Replaced?

Some of the silvering has started to go, around the edge on my heated mirrors - is it possible to replace the mirror, also wondering how the heating operates on the mirror !

 

Is is built into the glass, like the rear screen in the tailgate, or (more likely I think) is there a heater element behind a (standard?) mirror glass?

There is an element stuck onto the glass and these can be bought in different sizes from Poland via ebay.

 

They are relatively cheap and you can then use regular glass with new elements that connect easily once modified a little.
