Car Dying - Stalls And Unable To Drive!

Recommended Posts

omri617

Hi

I'm having a strange issue with my 1992 GTi :

1. It takes now longer than before to start.

2. It starts weak (around 500/400 rpm) and only after few seconds it revs to 1100.

3. When stationary and revving , all seems fine (except maybe some rich mixture sound) ,

But, when under load or driving especially when starting to drive , it simply dies - like is chunked,

Sometime turns off .

At higher speeds , car like kicks it self . You simply hear bumps and feel car is 'hesitating' .

My first guess was fuel pump , replaced with new Bosch 4 bar pump - no change.

Replaced spark plugs , spark leads, fuel filter air filter ,

Took ignition amp out and lubricated it .

no luck!

Help ! :(

Took the car this morning as I had no other way to get to work .

Is starts really poor , and I needed to hit the throttle back and forth all the time to keep it running .

Once I reach 3000 RPM and up, it goes OK.

Update - wired the pump directly to battery as I thought could be something wrong with Voltage - no change .

Changed the battery to a known good 60Amperes - no change .

Would love to hear what you think

Check round thoroughly for air leaks. Any air that is getting in upstream of the air flow meter is un metered and will make the car run badly.

Sounds like an air/vacuum leak to me .. if it clears with higher revs

Problem solved - took out the fuel rail to be sure it's not a fuel problem and found out no fuel there on startup..

the new Bosch 4bar pump wasn't working well , will take back to store maybe for a refund.

Thank you all for every comment.
