All Fuel Connections Leaking

Recommended Posts

wildejon

This is an S16 with TB's and has a pressure regulator set to (I think) 3 or 3.5bar. For some reason, last time I fired it up, every connection above the engine was leaking fuel.

Might the pressure regulator have failed? I'm thinking that in an ideal world, if they failed, they ought to drop the flow to zero but as far as I know, they are set with a pressure differential and if the set side leaks, there would be no resistance to the flow at all.

Does that make sense or does anyone have any other ideas?

Thanks,

Jon

generic black fuel injection hose? doesn't last very long at all these days.

unlikely to be cause by the FPR, though they are notoriously crap at holding a fixed pressure so on recommendation of Sandy I'd get a fixed one anyway.

No, its mainly braided hose. Weird right?

Good idea on getting a fixed pressure one, thanks.

rubber inside that braid? same applies, teflon lasts so much longer.

Yeah, it totally could be. Just seemed weird that it all failed at the same time - although it's all the same age... Seems weird - I would expect there to be one cause. Not sure which to replace first, I guess hose is cheaper!

Any idea where to get the good stuff? :)

Alex is on here as "Powers"

if you do change to teflon/ptfe you'll need new fittings as they are different to the types for rubber hose.

I had the same last year. Replaced all the hose from the metal fuel pipes to the rail with SS braided a few years ago*, car's not done much mileage since. After it had been sat for about a year, had to start it up to move it, and it was pissing everywhere. Seemed to be leaking from more than one joint.

*A few years ago is probably something in the order of 5 years, but to my mind, you'd expect fuel hose to last much longer than that. I mean, it's not exactly a regular service item, is it?

I got mine from torques, great quality stuff, although very pricey but looks great and does the job well, as said make sure you get teflon fittings too and not the hose finishers as they don't work on teflon hose

The an-6 teflon hose fits the original body mounts well too

Does anyone know how I can test this regulator?

Bin it and buy a fixed one is the best approach!

or fit a gauge.

Ha, I agree - what I want to know then is, what fuel pressure should I have?! :)
I seem to remember it was about 3bar, Golf 16v injectors... Might see if Emerald can help too, thanks!

Does 3 sound about right?

Cool, I found the injector code too and that also says 3, awesome! So next question, where do I get these from?

The ones I have found so far all have a far larger sized inlet diameter.

Thanks guys :)

get what?

the FPR, Standard weber/bosch unit would work just fine, you just need a holder for them, are you still using the 8mm push on hose?

Yup, same hose :)

Thanks, I'll check that is going to give me 3bar and get it ordered, cheers!
