205 Gti Starting Issue.

Recommended Posts

Phantome46

I have an ongoing issue with my 205 gti - it will not start.

I have replaced the tachometric relay but this still did not make any difference.

I have checked the voltage at the fuel pump and have the following

Large white wire - 11v as the car is cranking

Yellow and green - 0 v even when cranking.

I have checked the fuel pipe and blown it through but my guess thus far is the pump is not priming and pumping fuel down?

Anybody experienced anything similar and can advise how to fix?

Thanks

Sounds daft but have you checked the fuse? First on the right in fuse box

Did the problem start after you did Any repears or something, or just started one day?

For a good diagnose, we need a sutuation scetch.

Otherwise you're just gessing...

You Can try putting direct power tot the pump, see if you hear the pump running.

It makes a light buzzing sound. When it does, car should start...

If this is the case then the problem is the wiring of the pump.

When the pump does Buzz, But car doesn't start, you need to check if fuel-lines are not blocked or switched and if the injectors are getting signal from ecu..

If the pump does not Buzz when directly fed, the pump is dead and needs replacing.

PS:

Hope this helps you...

Thank you for the reply - the car was working fine and had a toad alarm on it. Something blew in the alarm box, drained the battery totally and ever since then the car does not start and the central locking also. Ow does not work.

I cut the alarm out of the car and ensured that all of the wires were joined again - so it should fire.

Checked all of the power to the pump as above and it seems to be live - but when you remove the fuel hose from the injectors there does not seem to be any fuel there.

I have not put a live wire to the pump yet as not clear what wire - white or green I should connect it to and don't want to get it wrong.

I've checked the lines and blown then out with a compressor so they should be fine?

Does this help?

Green-yellow is allways earth in a 205.

So put a plus wire from batery to the white wire, and the"-" of the batery to the green-yellow one.

Pump should start buzzing as soon as you connect the wires to the batery.

You can Also try to start the car by spraying deoderant, brakecleaner or wd40 in the intake(remove air filter)

Squirt it in in pulses while otter person starts.

If car fires up, you're shure there is no problem whit the ignition and you have to look for defect in injection system...

I gues you will have forgotten to reconnect a white af ter removing the allarm, happens a lot...

With it happening after something blew in the alarm, I would double check all the connections involved, specifically where the immobiliser was connected. Even if you didn't miss any wires and rewired correctly it could be that some damage has been caused somewhere on the circuit (for example, if the immobiliser cut across the tachometric relay it could have damaged that).

I have carried out an experiment tonight taking a 12v power supply from the battery and then connecting this directly to the fuel pump. I then ran a new ground and also connected this.

No buzzing sound and the pump appears dead. this may explain everything.

Try starting while someone sprays wd 40 in the intake in pulses...

Shoud run on the wd40 alone, that wat you,'re shure the rest is fine...
