Is This The Relay That Pre-Heats The Diesel Glow Plugs?

Hope you can see my fotos - is this blue box the relay for the above?

Yes thats it.

It is a simple timer with no temperature compensation.

Easy to test, just see if you have approx 11.5V on the output wire at the glowplug end, if not then try at the relay end to check the connecting wire.

 

They continue to supply power for a short time after the light goes out.

They can suffer from corroded terminals not allowing a proper contact.

Excellent, found the rascal !

 

Guess I could connect a bulb to the output side (don't own any voltmeter things), see if that lights up, then goes off.............

 

Certainly sounds like terminals could benefit from clean up, prior to that - think I'll see what access from under car is like.

Top tip,

 

the two nuts holding the large wires, best clean up the threads BEFORE unscrewing.

I have a few with snapped captive bolts.
